Sir Francis McClean AFC

July 17, 2020

(In what will become) The Most Famous Photograph In Aviation History the team are pictured outside the Eastchurch Aviation Museum. Standing left, Peter, Museum Manager; sitting middle Sir Francis McClean, AFC (1876-1955), one time owner of this site when known as Stonepits Farm, standing behind him, Caleb, plinth builder and architect of this monument to the early aviator and then standing right, Martin, Chair of Sheppey Heritage Trust. Missing are Mrs Barbara Street, the figure’s sculptress and, taking the photo, Rosemary, (Secretary to the Trustees and volunteer). The statue is not yet complete, we have to add some details for the figure, but should be ready to view when the museum plans to re-open in August, (with anti Covid-19 measures in place).
