This oil on canvas portrait was donated recently by a friend of the Museum who found it in the rubbish outside a charity shop (which shall remain nameless). It is dated 1918 and the subject is a pilot. We now know that the two white stripes on his uniform are actually the award of a DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross) awarded between June 1918 and May 1919. Any suggestions as to a name of the subject would be very welcome. We know the artist was William Logsdail and it was painted in 1918 (so the 2nd half of 1918!).
